Work & Impact

I build the system around the idea: the product, the process, the team, and the controls that make it usable. That work has taken me from healthcare facilities and manufacturing floors to physical prototypes and AI infrastructure.

Companies and operating work

ExecLayer: from architecture to products

As Founder, CEO & Chief Architect of ExecLayer, I own the architecture and hands-on engineering alongside product strategy, partnerships, standards work, and commercialization. I built and lead a six-person team spanning operations, risk, business development and compliance, revenue operations, and sales.

The work starts with a practical question: before an AI system changes something outside itself, who authorized the action, what evidence supports it, and what limits apply? I build the controls that check those conditions at an integrated execution boundary, and the signed records that let someone inspect the decision afterward.

That architecture has become a family of distinct systems: a Rust agent runtime, a JavaScript authorization service, governed memory, a customer assessment application, developer tools, and products that apply those ideas. QueueFlow Sentinel has reached paying customers through the Ring Appstore. The research and prototypes extend the same questions into robotics, physical systems, and human oversight.

BMC and independent ventures: building the operation around the idea

I independently founded Benton Manufacturing Consultants, Inc. to supply technical staffing and consulting for laboratory and manufacturing clients. The work included recruiting, payroll, onboarding, employer administration, and staffing technical operations with a PhD chemist and laboratory support personnel in Montana and Colorado.

Through BMC, I served as Partner & COO for Farm 209 Manufacturing LLC in Modesto. I took a regulated manufacturing operation from site selection and permits into facility design, construction, equipment procurement, utilities, safety systems, staffing, and inspection readiness. SOPs, cGMP-aligned quality systems, procurement, packaging, and training were part of the build. At Desert Zen in Cathedral City, I directed manufacturing and compliance, built out the facility, and supported a licensed consumer-brand launch.

As Co-Founder and Operations Lead of Remediation Sciences & Technology, I helped develop extraction and remediation processes, integrated laboratory testing and production requirements, and managed multi-country supply agreements. The business operated RFX North America-Boulder and acquired Honey Gold Processing through RST. A publicly announced agreement with Britannia Life Sciences documents the international ingredient-supply work.

Earlier work through Mr. Dabs Extracts, Herb’s Collective, and Top Choice Grow Works combined process development, facility projects, production, quality, staffing, and product launches. As a founding member and vice president of Coastal Growers Association, I also represented operator requirements in local ordinance and regulatory discussions.

Healthcare Services Group: accountability at operating scale

I started by cleaning floors. About 40 days later I was an account manager, and eventually an area manager responsible for three hospital and long-term-care facilities with more than 200 employees. I managed site leaders, staffing, payroll, environmental services, safety, service quality, and inspections inside facilities operated by our clients.

New work processes, training, and SOPs reduced operating spending by approximately 15%. During that work, the teams maintained seven years without an employee injury and passed 12 OSHA and state inspections without deficiencies. Those results shaped how I build now: a control has to survive the actual workflow, with the people and constraints that come with it.

Engineering, fabrication, and physical products

KJ’s Customs: design to finished part

I founded KJ’s Customs as an engineering and fabrication business. The work spans SolidWorks and Fusion 360 CAD, reverse engineering, CNC machining, additive manufacturing, tooling, fixtures, custom components, and prototyping. Classic-car restoration is one application of that capability. Customer requirements, materials, vendors, fitment, quality control, production workflow, and operating P&L are part of the same responsibility.

CampGuard: software meets physical hardware

An edge-AI campsite-monitor prototype combining ESP32-S3 hardware, camera and microphone inputs, PIR sensing, TensorFlow Lite Micro inference, BLE, a phone app, and a fabricated enclosure. It connects embedded software, electronics, local inference, and physical product development. Firmware and prototype work are documented; field validation of classification and response behavior remains in progress.

Applied tools for real workflows

PartsGenie AI explores voice-first automotive parts lookup, visual identification, VIN decoding, and fitment checks. ArtVector Pro applies AI-assisted design preparation to fabrication. These projects connect software to work I have done myself: identifying the right part, preparing a usable design, and getting an operator from an unstructured request to a result they can check.

A portfolio with a common question

The products address different problems. Their common thread is making the source, authority, and outcome of a consequential action visible enough to inspect.

Research, standards, and intellectual property

The published research comprises four foundational papers and eight standalone papers. It covers runtime enforcement, execution doctrine, governed artifacts, emotional-signal calibration, distributed-ledger transactions, neural interfaces, and autonomous space systems. The AGB, OHB, MGIB, and ELIB instruments examine runtime governance, meaningful human oversight, memory-mediated authority failures, and whether stored lessons retain justified authority under physical change. ELIB’s version 0.2 preprint reports diagnostic calibration in analytical simulation, with hardware and independent-system validation still ahead.

I have filed seven provisional patent applications, from voice-driven parts identification through execution-bound governance and physically isolated authority enforcement. The filing record lists their scope, dates, and application numbers.

I contribute as a designated Technical Expert to CEN-CENELEC JTC 21 WG2/WG3, participate as an ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 observer via UNE, and work with ASTM committees, including F45 robotics and D37. The operating background matters here: I have had to implement the kinds of rules that standards help define.

I also write for a broader audience. The End of Probabilistic Governance develops the technical argument; Elephants Over Unicorns describes my approach to building a business; Wired Different explores building with ADHD and AI.
